Nex Gen Lytro ...

This new version has been designed by Lytro to allow serious enthusiasts and professionals to now be able to explore the possibilities of light-field photography.

"The new camera, which is due out in July, is still based on the pioneering light field technology that Lytro's founder Ren Ng did his seminal Ph.D work in at Stanford University. So again you can focus long after capturing an image. But you can also press a button to gauge the relative focus of all the objects in the frame as you're contemplating a shot.

Made of magnesium and aluminum, Illum is a much larger camera than the original Lytro--closer in size to a DSLR--and targeted at creative professionals. It has an 8x optical zoom, 30-250mm equivalent focal lens with a constant f/2.0 aperture and 1:3 macro. The design is still somewhat unique but there's no mistaking it for a camera, something you couldn't necessarily say about its predecessor."

"Bublcam is a new softball-sized (they call it baseball-sized… but we think it’s a bit bigger) camera that is taking the Internet by storm. It takes 360-degree snapshots and videos — even allowing users to stream video live via WiFi — at the press of a button.

All you as the viewer have to do is upload the footage into the company’s Android, iOS or PC software to interact with the photos or video in the same way that you would with a Street View photograph.

If you’re wondering why we continue to compare the camera to Street View, it’s because Bublcam was invented by someone with a Street View pedigree. CEO and Founder Sean Ramsey once worked with a company called Immersive Media, who worked together with Google to create Street View.

Bublcam was born out of Ramsay’s dissatisfaction with the fact that 360-degree spherical image capture technology was only being used for mapping purposes. "

The Lens Camera ....

Interesting concept. Create a camera with no body, just a lens and a sensor. Make those two parts a 20.2-megapixel Exmor R CMOS sensor and an f/1.8 Carl Zeiss lens with 3.6X optical zoom. Allow it to physically and wirelessly connect to smartphones. Presto, a a DSLR-like quality camera.

Well, that's what SONY's betting on. I think it's a good bet.

Augmented Reality Photography

App Puts Virtual Images on Physical Walls

LZRTAG is a free Android app that lets you generate QR codes associated with uploaded images — mostly animated .gif images. The codes can be printed out and placed on walls and other surfaces. When scanned with the Android app, the codes call up the associated image and display it in an augmented reality on your phone.

This could also be a novel concept for photographers displaying work in galleries: instead of physical prints on walls, photographers could potentially display digital work in augmented reality.

Potentially any areas where QR codes could be placed can now become virtual photo galleries, accessible to anyone with a smartphone.

Cool.

The display possibilities are endless.

As are the possibilities for augmented reality photo art.
